MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection: 40+ Review — A $7.91 Cotton Graphic Tee, Tested

We ordered two colorways of the $7.91 MLB cotton graphic tee and ran our ten-point inspection. Clean print work and honest cotton, but sizing reports conflict and the listing gives no care guidance.

MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection: 40+ Review — A $7.91 Cotton Graphic Tee, Tested

The MLB Multi-Color T-Shirt Collection is less a single garment than a template repeated at scale: one short-sleeve, round-neck, loose-fit cotton body carrying a printed letter or geometric motif, then reissued across a long list of solid black and white colorways. At $7.91 with sizing from S through XXXL, it undercuts nearly everything else in the printed-tee category we have handled. We ordered two variants — 910 black and 910 white — and put them through the same ten-point inspection sequence our lab uses on sneakers, swapping midsole shape, outsole pattern and insole checks for print registration, collar recovery and hem finish.

How the tee performed on the ten-point check

Packaging arrived compressed but dry, and the only note on opening was a faint mill smell that aired out in about an hour — the first thing we flag on any cotton graphic tee, because cheap reactive dyes and heavy finishing agents usually announce themselves and stay. The collar sits flat with no ripple along the seam, the shoulder-to-neck seam runs straight on both samples, and the hem and cuff stitching is even with no loose thread pulls or skipped stitches. Print edges came out crisp rather than blown out, which is the failure point for most low-cost screen printing.

The body panels are cut generously through the chest and drop straight to the hem, so the loose fit the listing describes is real rather than marketing shorthand. Both size L samples measured inside the 1–2 cm tolerance the listing states, which means the neckline and armhole should behave predictably if you order against the chart rather than against habit.

Fabric: 100% cotton, listed at 180–250 g

Both the main-fabric entry and the material composition field read 100% cotton, and the hand feel agrees: a dry, faintly textured jersey rather than a slicked poly blend. The stated 180–250 g band reads as a fabric-weight range more than a per-garment figure, so treat it as an indicator of mid-weight knit, not a number you can check with a kitchen scale. The listing also claims an antibacterial material function. That remains a catalog claim; nothing on the tag or packaging of the pairs we received documented it, and we could not verify it.

The colorway list is the real product

The collection title promises 40-plus styles. The variant list currently names 37 pairings across twenty style codes — 903, 906, 907, 908, 909, 910, 915, 916, 926, 927, 929, 940, 946, 948, 950, 952, 956, 957, 970 and the 969 Year of the Horse design — split 20 black and 17 white. That gap between the promised range and the live list is not a defect, but it does mean you should confirm your exact code exists and match it against its own image set before ordering. The 969 Year of the Horse variant is described only by color name and the geometric print theme; the listing says nothing more about the graphic.

Sizing and fit: the part that needs your tape measure

Buyer reports on the MLB brand split cleanly in two directions. One long-running buyer account describes the label's apparel as looser than standard sizing, with shoppers routinely sizing down; a baseball forum thread about MLBShop.com reports the opposite, with a regular L wearer needing XL in Nike-made MLB shirts. Neither source covers this specific cotton blank, and both are brand-level impressions rather than tests of this tee. What we can say from the samples in hand is that a size L matched the chart within tolerance and read loose through the chest by design.

Our approach is unglamorous but effective: measure a tee you already like, flat across the chest, then choose whichever listed size lands closest. Do not size down purely on the brand's reputation.

Care, shrinkage and what stays unresolved

The listing carries no washing or drying instructions, which leaves wash temperature and drying method as genuine unknowns. The strongest care signal in circulation is a complaint filed by an MLB official flagship customer who reported a top shrinking severely after a single wash and said service dismissed it as outside warranty. That was a different garment, and a single data point is not a pattern — but it is also the only care evidence we could locate, so it belongs in the decision rather than in a footnote. Until the label on arrival says otherwise, assume cold wash and air dry.

One structural note worth keeping: because this is a multi-colorway listing rather than a single SKU, the graphic on the tee you receive is the one in your chosen variant's images, not a single master graphic. Check the image set for your code before checkout.

Value at $7.91

At this price the relevant question is not whether the tee rivals a retail MLB shop purchase, but whether it survives a ten-point inspection at a price where one bad print run is disposable. It does. The cotton content is honest, the print work is clean, the size range runs to XXXL, and the colorway list lets you buy the same blank twice with different graphics. We scored it 4.2 / 5. What holds it short of a higher mark is not what we found in the samples but what we cannot settle: brand-level fit reports pointing in opposite directions, and a listing that says nothing about care.

Frequently asked

Is the fabric actually cotton?

The listing gives both the main fabric and the material composition as 100% cotton, with a 180–250 g weight band. The hand feel matches a dry cotton jersey. The antibacterial function appears only as a listing claim and is not verified.

Should I size down or size up?

Reports point both ways: some buyers describe MLB apparel as loose and size down, while others found a regular L wearer needed XL in Nike-made MLB tees. Use your own flat chest measurement against the listed chart as the tiebreaker.

Could this tee shrink?

The listing gives no wash or dry instructions. One MLB official flagship customer reported severe shrinkage after a single wash on a different MLB top, so treat wash temperature and drying method as unknowns and assume cold wash, air dry.

Been wearing mine almost daily for a month. Cotton breathes well, doesn't get that swampy feel like the poly blends. Only knock is the collar started to lose shape slightly after a bunch of washes. Still a solid cop at this price, just don't expect premium blank quality.

Decent tee for the price but mine ran small, shoulders were tight and I'm normally a solid medium. The print is the best part honestly. Wish they listed fabric weight somewhere. Return process would've been more hassle than the shirt is worth so I just kept it as a lounge shirt.

Ordered two colorways after reading this, both arrived in like 11 days. Stitching on the hem is neat, no loose threads. For $7.91 this absolutely punches above its weight. Gonna grab two more in the red and green.

Print quality is genuinely good, vibrant colors that pop. But the sizing info in the listing is a mess, one chart says M is 38 chest and the pic shows something else. Ended up ordering a size up based on the comments here and it was the right call. Also yeah, no care tag on mine either, I just wash cold and hang dry.

$7.91 is wild for this. I grabbed the navy/white combo and the print has held up through about six washes so far, no cracking at all. Cotton feels a little thin but honestly for under eight bucks I can't complain. The sizing thing is real though, I went true to size and it fits a bit boxy on me.
