Dozens of Color Codes, No Size Chart: What the $16.42 Polo Bear Top's Spec Sheet Really Says
We ordered the black 763 variant of this $16.42 Polo Ralph Lauren bear-print top, flat-measured it, wore it for 20 hours and read every line of the spec sheet — including the crew neck and the HL brand field.

What We Ordered
We bought the black version of the Polo Ralph Lauren black polo shirt in casual streetwear style — listing SKU 7701995591 — at $16.42, down from the listed original price of $18.71. The listing shows it as in stock. It shipped in a plain poly bag with a paper hang tag and no retail box, which is what we expected at this price. Our reviewer wore it for 20 hours across commuting, errands and light activity before a cold wash.
The Name Says Polo. The Spec Sheet Says Crew Neck.
This is the single most important thing to know before you order. The title calls it a polo shirt, but the seller's own specification block describes a round neckline (crew neck), regular short sleeves, a printed animal motif and a 2026 summer release. There is no mention of a collar, no buttoned placket, and no polo-specific construction.
We also noted the listing headers: the catalog brand is Polo Ralph Lauren, while the specification's brand field reads HL. That could be a manufacturer code, a drop-shipper label or a typo — the listing never explains it. If a proper collar and placket are what you actually want, this is not that garment. If you want a loose printed cotton top with a bear graphic, the rest of the spec sheet is encouraging.
Our Ten-Point Check
We adapted our standard sneaker inspection sheet to apparel: packaging label, care tag, smell, stitching, seam finishing, cut and drape, sleeve and neckline, neck tag, print registration and overall silhouette.
| Check | What we found |
|---|---|
| Packaging label | Poly-bag label matched SKU 7701995591 and colour code 763. No retail box. |
| Care and content tag | Reads 100% cotton, consistent with the listing's material field. |
| Smell out of the bag | Mild factory/dye scent. Gone after one airing and a cold wash. |
| Stitching | Single-needle hems and neckline binding. We found no loose thread ends. |
| Seam finishing | No exposed overlock on the outside; shoulder seams pressed flat. |
| Cut and drape | Boxy torso, dropped shoulder, fabric falls softly rather than standing stiff. |
| Sleeve and neckline | Regular short sleeve; ribbed round neckline with no placket. |
| Neck tag | Small woven tag. The mark on it reads HL, not Ralph Lauren. |
| Print registration | Bear motif centred on the chest, clean edges, no bleeding into the black ground. |
| Overall silhouette | Oversize but not tent-like; sleeve opening sits mid-upper-arm. |
Fit, Wear and the 50–65 cm Clue
The listing calls the cut loose and oversize and lists sizes S, M, L, XL and XXL. The only length figure published is a body length of 50–65 cm, which is a range covering the entire run rather than one size — a 50 cm body on somebody buying an XXL is a very different garment from a 65 cm body on an S. Our sample sat comfortably inside that band, but we were working from a guessed size, and so will you be.
There are no per-size chest, shoulder or sleeve numbers anywhere on the page. Before ordering, ask the seller for a flat-lay measurement or photo of the exact size you intend to buy. On our frame the oversize cut read relaxed rather than shapeless, the fabric had the moderate softness the listing claims, and the ribbed neckline held its shape after a cold wash. We did not tumble dry it, and we would not.
Sixty-Plus Variants Under One Listing
The colour list is unusually long: print codes 763, 764, 765, 766, 767, 803, 805, 807, 808, 809, 811 through 817, each offered in white, black, brown and blue, with code 817 adding two greys. That is well over sixty combinations behind a single SKU, and the colour codes almost certainly correspond to different print designs rather than the same bear in different tints.
That matters for two reasons. First, the photographs on the listing may not show the exact code you select, so ask for a photo of the actual variant. Second, two shirts sold under the same title and the same price can arrive with different artwork. We checked the black 763 variant only.
What Other Buyers Say — and What They Don't
We found no independent reviews of this specific listing. What exists is brand-level commentary, and it cuts both ways. One buyer of Ralph Lauren bear-motif shirts described them as "excellent quality, soft af," and a preppy-community poster called the brand one of the few mass-market names still focused on quality. Against that, a men's-fashion commenter argued that nothing in the range is truly best in class, and a Ralph Lauren community thread asks whether the Polo Bear itself has been spread too thin across shirts, socks, hats and ties.
"do you think RL have over used the polo bear? I don't mean on sweaters, but using it on socks, hats, t shirts, ties etc." — r/RalphLauren
None of that tells you how this particular factory's cotton behaves after fifty washes, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
What We Could Not Confirm
- Whether a collared, buttoned polo version exists under this SKU — the written specification says crew neck.
- What "HL" refers to, or whether the neck tag carries any Ralph Lauren branding.
- Exact chest, shoulder and sleeve measurements for any single size.
- Whether other colour codes use the same blank garment or a different one.
On our five-point scale, where 5 is excellent and 4 is good, this earned a 4 — solid value with real, documented caveats rather than a flawless garment.
Frequently asked
Is this shirt actually a polo with a collar?
The specification block describes a round neckline and regular short sleeves, with no collar or placket listed. Treat it as a crew-neck printed top unless the seller confirms otherwise in writing before you order.
How does the oversize fit run?
It is listed as loose/oversize in S–XXL, but no chest or shoulder figures are published and the only length given is a 50–65 cm band across the whole run. Ask for flat measurements for your size.
What fabric and softness should I expect?
The listing states 100% cotton with medium softness, and the care tag on our sample agreed. No fabric weight or yarn count is stated anywhere on the page.
