Versace Black Shorts in Everyday Casual Style Review: Polyester, No Stretch, and Black vs. Black-Gold
We bench-tested the $6.87 Versace five-point polyester short and wore it over 20 hours. The Greek-key hem and Medusa detail carry the design; the no-stretch fit still depends on seller measurements.

We ordered the Versace black shorts in everyday casual style (SKU 7717544993) at $6.87 and ran them through the same bench routine we apply to every product that reaches our Los Angeles studio: ten inspection points straight out of the box, then more than 20 hours of real wear, including walking, errands and a short stretch of light jogging. This is a straight-leg, five-point polyester short with no stretch, listed in sizes M through 5XL and offered in black or black-gold.
What the pair actually is
The listing describes a black base carrying an all-over white geometric motif, a Greek key border sitting above the hem, and a visible Medusa head detail on the lower leg. That is what the photographs show and what our pair reproduced: the print repeats evenly down both legs, the Greek key band runs parallel to the hem rather than drifting up one side, and the Medusa sits on the lower leg where the photos place it. Print registration is the first thing we check on a patterned short, because a cheap garment usually gives itself away by misaligning a border against a seam. Ours did not.
Seam finishing is simple and consistent. Single-needle stitching runs down the outer and inner leg, the hem is turned and locked, and there is no loose thread escaping from the waistband channel or the pocket openings. The waistband itself is the plainest part of the build: a standard elastic channel with no drawcord visible in the supplied images, and no hardware beyond what the design requires. There was no chemical odor out of the bag, which on polyester is worth noting.

Sizing: the tag number is not the number that matters
This is the part of the review that decides whether the order goes well. The listing publishes a size run but no flat waist or hip measurements, so the numbers M through 5XL describe a label, not a garment. That gap is not theoretical. In replica communities, threads on Versace shorts routinely open with buyers asking for the actual width of each size, because the tag alone does not tell you what arrives. Resale listings in the same style family also show up with the size tag missing or not photographed, which makes the label even less useful as a reference.
Versace's own published men's beach size chart makes the problem sharper: it maps IT 48/M to a US S. A Versace M therefore behaves closer to a US S, so anyone expecting a relaxed fit from their usual letter size will be disappointed. We used both references before ordering, asked the seller for flat waist and hip numbers, and sized up accordingly.
If you will not wait for the seller's tape measure, do not guess on this pair. There is no stretch anywhere in the fabric to absorb the error.
Twenty hours of wear
Non-stretch polyester has a specific personality. It hangs clean and stays crisp through a long afternoon, and it dries fast, which is exactly what a summer short should do. It also refuses to negotiate. Over 20-plus hours of walking, errands, sitting through meals and a short jog, the waistband never gave a millimeter, the leg never stretched out at the knee, and the print survived a full day without dulling or cracking at the fold lines.
Where the cut asks for attention is sitting and stepping. A straight leg with no mechanical give drapes rather than follows, so the short reads the body underneath instead of smoothing it. Ours moved well in motion because we had the width confirmed; a tight guess would have shown up immediately at the waist and across the seat, and it would have stayed that way for the life of the garment.
Black versus black-gold
The black version keeps the white geometric motif as the only contrast, so the Greek key border and the Medusa read as the loudest elements. The black-gold option adds a warmer metallic accent to the detailing, which changes the short from a monochrome piece into something closer to statement wear. Style-wise, the plain black is the easier half of the drop: it pairs with a white tee and a neutral sneaker, or with a hoodie when the outfit needs more weight. Black-gold narrows your choices, but it also makes the branding the point.
Where the $6.87 goes
At this price, the money is visibly spent on printed trim placement and repetitive pattern work rather than on the fabric itself, which is a basic polyester with no stretch and no premium hand feel. For a warm-weather short with a recognizable motif and a size run that does not stop at XL, that trade is reasonable — the design does the talking. What you are not buying is forgiveness on fit.
What we could not confirm
Independent feedback on this exact listing is thin. One reviewer unboxing Versace mid-length swim shorts in the same Greek-key and Medusa family called them good quality and pretty stylish, but that is a related-style impression, not a test of this item, so we are not treating it as a verdict on this pair. Our own 20-hour wear window covers first impressions, construction and comfort; it does not cover how the print or the waistband elastic holds up across a full season. We retest featured products every 12 months, or sooner if the seller releases a new batch.
Frequently asked
What is the difference between the black and black-gold options?
Both use the same black base and white geometric motif. Black-gold adds a warm metallic accent to the detailing, including the lower-leg Medusa area. Black stays easier to pair with neutral pieces; black-gold makes the branding the center of the outfit.
What does the five-point length mean in practice?
It describes a mid-length short rather than a full-length leg. The listing does not publish an inseam or finished length figure, so if hem placement matters to you, confirm the measurement with the seller before ordering.
Is this the same short a reviewer praised?
No. That review covers a Versace mid-length swim short in the same Greek-key and Medusa style family and calls it good quality and stylish. It is a related-style impression, not a test of this listing, so we treated it as context only.

Ordered my usual size, way too tight in the hips. My fault for not measuring but the listing size chart was pretty vague. Quality itself was fine for the price, stitching was decent, just couldnt wear them. Passing them to my younger brother instead.
Bought black and my buddy got black-gold so we compared. Both same fabric and cut, the gold one just looks more expensive from a distance. If you want it to read as Versace to normal people go gold, if you want to be lowkey go plain. Either way ask the seller for actual waist and inseam numbers, dont trust the tag size.
20 hours wear is more than I've done but after a few washes the print on the gold trim still hasn't cracked. That was my worry with budget reps. No stretch though, the review is right, dont expect jogger comfort. These are lounge shorts that look sharp, not gym shorts.
Wore mine for a whole weekend trip, maybe 15 hours total. Polyester gets a bit clammy if you're walking around in heat but dries fast so whatever. Medusa head is small and subtle, not screaming fake across the room. Measure your waist with a tape before ordering, the chart runs slim.
Got the black-gold pair last month and honestly for $6.87 you can't really complain. The Greek-key pattern along the hem is the whole reason to buy these, it pops way more than the plain black version in person. Only thing I'd say is size up if you're between sizes, there is zero give in the waist. Mine fit but it was close lol.
